Language Placement Test Instructions
Chinese and Japanese Placement Tests
Students with prior language experience (e.g., at high schools and other prior institutions, study abroad programs, personal experiences) should take a placement test so that they will be placed at the appropriate level within our programs. There are two steps to complete a placement test. If you have any questions, please contact a language advisor.
Step 1: Written test
UO Testing Center – 2nd floor, Health Center, 541-346-3230
When Duck Registration is open for the next term’s courses, please register for a placement test via the testing registration page of the UO Testing Center.
At other times outside of the Duck Registration period, students can call (541) 346-3230 to schedule a placement test.
Step 2: Oral Interview – once the written test has been scheduled, schedule an oral interview with the appropriate language advisor.
Korean Placement Tests
Please schedule an appointment with Woojoo Kim.
Placement test during breaks
During a break, one of the steps above for the Chinese and Japanese placement tests (Step 1 or Step 2) may not be possible. Students may still wish to secure a spot in a course in a new term while results from either the written test or the oral interview are not available. In that case, language advisors may temporarily allow registration based on the available results (either the written test or the oral interview), with the understanding that a change of level might be necessary after the new term has started and students have completed the missing portion of the exam. Please contact a language advisor if this arrangement is necessary.
