According to a recent survey from the Chronicle of Higher Education, the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures is among the most robust programs in the United States for studying the language and culture of East Asia. Based on number of majors, the Chinese and Japanese programs both rank fourth, and EALL as a whole ranks fifth among departments of East Asian languages, literatures, and linguistics.
